One of The Biggest Secrets to My Success
I hope you’re somewhere warm and comfy this week. It’s been raining where I live in Northern California and I love the sound of the rain. I have always found it very soothing. In this week’s blog, I’m excited to share with you one of the biggest secrets to my success. Go grab yourself a cup of tea and let’s get right into it.
We talked last week about how I got my start in surface design and how important Bonnie Christine was and continues to be in my career. One of the things we didn’t talk about, and that I want to talk about today, is how important knowledge and learning is in my continued growth and success.
While I was diving into everything I could get my hands on around surface design, Bonnie empowered and encouraged me to follow my BIGGEST dream: of running my own online business focused on surface design. I believe in the importance of setting BIG goals. You know, the ones that are scary to say out loud because you think they may never come true? The most important thing I’ve learned about those big goals is to not let them overwhelm you. Rather, let them inspire your journey and lead you to gain the knowledge you need to succeed.
The best way I know to get started towards big dreams is simply that: JUST START. I wrote a blog post about this last year and yet, how to get started is still one of the most frequent questions I get asked. Why do so many creatives get stuck and struggle to get started? I’m not sure but it may be because taking that first step seems really daunting. Or because you know there will be a TON of steps and that can feel overwhelming too. Here’s my advice. Take each step one at a time. You don’t need to worry about step #9 (or #1,321). You’ll know what to do when you get there.
I believe that dreams come true by way of knowledge.
I love to learn. There is something truly magical about learning a new skill or getting better at a skill you already know. I’m also very eager to learn from teachers who love to teach and help their students succeed. I also believe in immersion! When we moved to Paris when I was 10, my mom immersed us in the french school system. Sink or swim kinda immersion! You learn fast and you learn thoroughly.
