My Doodles® workshop was all about discovering YOUR path to success in Surface Design, and in the last lesson, I focus on seven different paths you can take to become a successful Surface Designer. I also address some mindset blocks that are very important for you to be aware of so that they don’t hinder you from pursuing your creative dreams.

Here are three key takeaways from lesson four:
#1 – It is never too late to create®
If you’ve been in my community for a while, you already know this is my tagline and you hear me say it at the end of almost all of my videos. I shared my story with you in lesson one and you got to see how I leaned into my creativity and discovered the world of Surface Design after getting laid off in my late fifties very unexpectedly, and struggling for several years to find a new job.
As you learn about the different paths to success in Surface Design, I want you to keep in mind that no matter where you are in your creative journey, even if you haven’t started yet, there is room for you in Surface Design, and I want to help you discover your unique path forward.
#2 – The possibilities are endless.
This is another statement you will always hear me say in my community, #annesuniverse, and in lesson 4, you’ll learn about using licensing, indirect sales, direct sales, teaching, subscriptions, retail stores, and commissions to achieve success in Surface Design. These are only a few of the possibilities available to you, and you get to pick which ones best fit your creative vision.
When you watch the video lesson, you’ll get to see how some of my Academy® students are using one or more of these categories in their creative businesses, and you’ll learn how easy it is to combine different categories. This is particularly important if you’re just starting out because you don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket.
#3 – Be aware of limiting beliefs.
Frequently, limiting beliefs hold us back from pursuing a creative path, so in lesson four, I cover mindset blocks like “I’m too old”, “I can’t draw”, “tech is hard!”, and “where do I start?”. As always, I also give you examples of my Academy® students who once thought the same things so that you can see how they overcame these thoughts and you can too.
