Meet multi-media artist Kathleen Lambert
Hi there, my friend! This week’s spotlight is with a trailblazing student of mine, Kathleen Lambert, who is a multi-media artist, surface pattern designer, online educator, wife, former pastor, and Mom of three.
Kathleen loves to use words in her art, loves on her community, and reminds herself that she can figure anything out if she tries. Since coming into the world of Surface Design, she has coined herself as a trailblazer, never shy to embrace something new, and she even has a course on how to use Illustrator for the iPad which was released fairly recently.
The video of my interview with Kathleen is over on my YouTube channel HERE. Please subscribe to my channel when you pop over there to watch it.
Here are a few key takeaways from Kathleen’s interview:
#1 – Explore words as your signature style
Kathleen was an English major, and she says, “I love words. I love all kinds of things to do with words, and words get me inspired. I don’t know why I’m always thinking of a new play on a tired old saying.”
I love this about Kathleen because we often talk about drawing and painting, but creating art with words also offers endless possibilities, especially if you already have a thing for words. You can create patterns with text, or create spot graphics, and use your art to embellish a favorite quote.
Whether you like poems, plays, or puns, if you love to work with words, there is a world in Surface Design just for you, so give it a try!
#2 – You can figure it out
This world of creativity and entrepreneurship can be really challenging, so it’s very inspiring to hear Kathleen say, “I don’t get overwhelmed with big deal things. I don’t procrastinate. I get things done, and I’m like amazed at myself with what I accomplish during the day.”
We may not like the challenges of a creative journey, but as you see with Kathleen, they help us grow. If you keep taking steps on this journey, you’ll soon see how much progress you’re making which, in turn will encourage you to keep going.
I use this expression a lot: We can do hard things. I always like to remind my community of this because it’s true if you believe it. You can do hard things. You just have to approach them one step at a time.
Knowing this, what challenge are you going to step up to today?
#3 – Share the stage
I love how Kathleen says, “I had a whole lot of plans for how things might go (in her iPad class), but it was so much more fun when people gave me suggestions because I’d rather be teaching what’s really relevant for you, for your business right now. What is it that you really want to know?
When Kathleen goes LIVE with her community, the conversations can take many helpful turns because she focuses on listening and finding useful answers. She also often brings students on LIVE to do a demo and offer their own insight.
Kathleen isn’t scared to share the stage, and this has helped her build her own creative community, with people that feel seen and valued. This is super important for us as artists and creative entrepreneurs because it helps us create the legacy, impact, and income that many of us are hoping for. Awesome, right?
Community creates win-wins for everyone, so I encourage you to pay attention to how you’re showing up and listening to your audience.

MEET ANNE
Hi…I’m Anne!
My creative inspiration comes from a lifetime of observation. I grew up in Paris on the Place St. Sulpice and walked to school through the Luxembourg gardens. And that was only the beginning… Learn more by watching the video on my About page.
