Meet artist and creative entrepreneur Roberta Graver
Hello there, my friend! I hope you have your pencils ready because this week’s blog will inspire you to draw, draw, and draw some more! I’m excited to spotlight Roberta Graver, a graduate of my Pattern Design Academy® who is now a Surface Designer and creative entrepreneur.
Like many artists, Roberta has struggled with confidence around her drawing skills. Her work is fabulous, but like many of us, we have self-doubt. She took a few steps to build her confidence and expand how she uses her art. In this spotlight, she shares a couple of steps she took with her drawings, and offers some motivation for your journey.
The video of my interview with Roberta is over on my YouTube channel HERE. Please subscribe to my channel when you pop over there to watch it.
Here are a few key highlights from this interview:
#1 – Join a drawing challenge
I’ve talked a lot about using drawing challenges to find your signature style, and this is actually a great way to also build confidence in your drawing skills. Roberta participated in a 90-day drawing challenge, and she drew for 2 hours before & after work every day. By the end of the challenge, she had almost 200 drawings!
Roberta says her understanding after the challenge was “what I do is okay, what I do is my style and it’s not like anybody else’s.” This is so true. Just like you have unique handwriting, you have unique artistic skills too.
After drawing so much, you will come to feel confident about whatever you create when you put your pencil to paper. Joining a drawing challenge is a really great way to get the accountability we all need to stick with it each day.
#2 – Create a coloring book
Sometimes, the problem isn’t knowing what to draw. It can also be knowing what to do with your drawings when you want to expand your creative business. If you create very detailed art with clean line work like Roberta does, creating a coloring book could be a great idea for you.
Coloring books are incredibly popular. It’s such a relaxing activity that even adults are leaning into them nowadays. Don’t limit yourself to creating coloring books just for children. You can compile drawings into PDF files, and sell the downloadable PDFs directly from your website at almost no cost!
Will you give coloring books a try? Let me know in the comments under my YouTube video for Roberta’s spotlight here.
#3 – It’s a journey
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed about how to make progress with your art, Roberta shares that, “it’s a journey. Whether you’ve just started or you’ve been doing it for years, you just keep trying and keep doing.” This is what she’s always done, and this is all that we can do because it’s the only way to keep making progress. We always have to remember that exploring creativity is a journey.
Drawing should be fun. Hang in there and keep going. And don’t forget that you have a whole community in #annesuniverse rooting for you!

MEET ANNE
Hi…I’m Anne!
My creative inspiration comes from a lifetime of observation. I grew up in Paris on the Place St. Sulpice and walked to school through the Luxembourg gardens. And that was only the beginning… Learn more by watching the video on my About page.
