Ed Mylett's 'One More' - The Secret to Creative Success
Welcome to this week’s blog. I’ve been talking about masterminds a lot lately and if you’ve missed any of my prior blogs about them, just go to annelafolletteart.com/blog. You’ll see three listed there:
I’m taking a bit of a different approach this week because it’s Fall and the days are shorter which makes them perfect for curling up with a good book. Don’t you agree?
At my most recent mastermind, the leader of the group gave us a copy of Ed Mylett’s book called: "The Power of One More". I’ve just finished reading it and thought I’d share my biggest takeaways and encourage you to read it too.
You can buy the hardcover here or the audio book here.
In the book, Mylett, a renowned speaker and life coach, dives deep into how adding 'just one more' effort to our daily actions can lead to extraordinary results. Ready to explore three core concepts that Mylett identifies as crucial for anyone looking to harness 'The Power of One More?’ Let’s dive in.
The Compounding Effect of 'One More'
Embracing Incremental Progress
Mylett introduces the concept of 'One More' as an incremental but powerful tool for growth. This isn't about massive leaps; it's the subtle art of pushing for one more rep, one more hour, one more page—whatever your field or endeavor might be. By advocating for this approach, Mylett isn't simply rallying for increased effort; he's helping us discover what happens when 'one more' becomes a habit rather than an exception.
For example, in your creative journey, one more design or one more repeating pattern could be the difference that helps you hone your signature style. Or, one more call to a potential licensing company could lead to the contract you’ve been waiting for. Mylett's narrative is replete with such tangible examples, making the concept not only relatable but achievable.
The Mindset of Abundance
Cultivating an Attitude of Possibility
One of the most striking ideas in Mylett's book is the 'One More' mindset—a shift from scarcity to abundance. I’ve covered this concept before in my blog called: From Scarcity to Abundance. Mylett also believes that by embracing the idea that there is always one more opportunity, one more idea, or one more connection to be made, you open yourself up to a world of possibilities.
Mylett lays out a roadmap for developing this mindset. It's about reprogramming our internal dialogues from "I can't" to "I can," from "This is enough" to "What else is possible?" The abundance mindset is not about greed or relentless dissatisfaction; it's about recognizing the inherent potential for growth and opportunity that lies within and around you.
Building Resilience
The Power of Sticking With It
To embrace 'The Power of One More' is to commit to a life of continuous improvement, not just in pursuit of personal gain but in the quest to live a fulfilling, purpose-driven life. Whether you are just starting on your creative journey or have achieved success, Mylett’s principles offer a universal blueprint that we can all follow.
In a world that often glorifies overnight success stories, "The Power of One More" is a refreshing narrative that champions the incremental, consistent, and oftentimes gritty path to achieving your dreams. Push beyond your self-imposed boundaries and expand your vision of what’s possible. The margin between the ordinary and the extraordinary is often narrower than you think.
I found readying the book both inspiring and motivating. I think you will too. Grab the hardcover here or the audio book here.
