Black Lives Matter
I feel completely overwhelmed by the events of the past few weeks. Writing this blog post about it makes me feel even more inadequate. I’m a white woman of privilege living in a nearly 100% white community and I’m embarrassed to admit that the issue of race has not been on my mind, in an active way, until now.
I don’t begin to know how to talk about it. However, I realize that remaining silent on the topic is even worse and just isn’t an option.
Listening and learning about discrimination and racism in this country from a variety of sources is helping me understand how inaction is actually action. What’s helping me a lot right now is listening to people like @ivirlei and @jasminewilliamsmedia who are sharing their thoughts and recommendations so gently via their social media channels.
It’s been encouraging to see artists and entrepreneurs who I follow and admire, like Carla Sonheim and Amy Porterfield, privileged white women like me, take responsibility for the role they have played in the marginalization of black people and people of color. It makes me hopeful to see the specific actions they are taking in their businesses to address the situation in a proactive manner. While my business is tiny in comparison, I need to do the same.
While slowing down and listening is good advice to start, it’s important for me to figure out what steps I can take in my own business, in these blog posts for example, to support and amplify the voices of people of color within my creative community. My message of inclusion, community, support and encouragement is open to everyone. And I want you to know that you are safe here.

MEET ANNE
Hi…I’m Anne!
My creative inspiration comes from a lifetime of observation. I grew up in Paris on the Place St. Sulpice and walked to school through the Luxembourg gardens. And that was only the beginning… Learn more by watching the video on my About page.
