Finding Balance - 3 Tips That Work!

Well, hello there and welcome to this week's blog. Today's topic is about finding balance and managing overwhelm. I don’t know about you but I’ve been feeling stretch too thin lately. Here are my three tips for how to find more balance and return to a state of calm and peaceful existence.

#1 – Acknowledge how you’re feeling.

Before you can really do anything about how you’re feeling, you have to actually give yourself grace, acknowledge the fact that you are feeling overwhelmed or out of balance, and give yourself an opportunity to realize that's the state you're in.

#2 – Assess what’s happening.

Think about what specifically is making you feel this way. Is it because you've just joined a new online program that has you excited, but you’re also feeling a little bit nervous and a little bit scared? Or are you feeling overwhelmed because a big trip is coming up? Or are you about to have a big art show and there's so much that you need to do to get organized around it?

There are always a variety of different reasons why you might be feeling overwhelmed, but after you acknowledge it, you need to assess it and assess the reason it's happening.

#3 – Advance through it.

The way I advance through overwhelm to find more balance is after I've acknowledged how I’m feeling and I've assessed that, I decide on the one change I want to make in my daily routine.

Maybe I have observed that I'm going back to a bad habit of checking my emails first thing in the morning, and I want to stop doing that by making sure that all of my computer devices, including my phone, are not in my bedroom so that they will not be the first thing I reach for.

You might also have gotten so busy that you've given up on your morning routine, so in order to gain balance back, you might want to embrace and lean back into that morning routine, or even a workout routine as simple as walking (like mine!).

I hope that this process helps you find more balance. All you have to do is remember the 3 A’s - Acknowledge, Assess, and Advance. Then make one small change that will help you continue to move forward successfully.
