Quick Tips – Preparing Your Designs

Well hello, my friend! I hope you’re ready to dive deeper into preparations for your craft fair. This week, I’m sharing some insights on how to prepare your designs.

If you’ve taken From Doodles To Dollars®, or, The Pattern Design Academy®, chances are you already have a bunch of designs that you can now look back at to see if they’re seasonally appropriate and may just need a few tweaks.

Here are my quick tips for you:

#1 – Review your existing designs.

Don’t think you have to start from scratch. Instead, see how you can pick the best of what you already have. Maybe you need to update some of the colors in a few of your designs or create a few new holiday themed patterns. It may not take much to add in seasonal motifs to update and give existing patterns some newness.

#2 – Mix in simple designs.

One of the things I’ve discovered over the years is that while people are attracted to busy, dense, hero-like prints, frequently they’ll buy much simpler designs or buy a combination of products that may have both busy and simple patterns which work well together.

Making collections by adding simpler patterns (which we call secondary or blender prints) is another way you can easily create a bundle of 3 items as we discussed last week that encourages people to purchase more of your products.

#3 – Offer designs in various scales.

Another easy way to create more diversity and intrigue with your products is with the scale of motifs in your patterns. Review them again with a critical eye to see if you have a nice mix: some patterns with motifs that are larger in scale, with others that are smaller in scale.

This builds interest, appeal and will set you up for success when we talk about how to present your products in a beautiful display.

We’ll talk more about merchandising and table display in a few weeks. Don’t forget to download my free eBook: your ultimate guide to a profitable Craft Fair. Click HERE to download it.
