Quick Tips – Picking Your Products

Ready to explore how to pick the best mix of products to sell at your craft fair this season? It’s so exciting to see that many in person craft fair are happening again. There’s quite a bit of strategy involved in picking the right mix of products to sell to maximize your profits.

Let’s get into it! Here are three tips to consider:

#1 – Keep your selection focused.

As much as you may want to have a large assortment, keeping your selection pretty narrow and focused is best, especially for your first event. This ensures that you can manage the amount of inventory you need to buy which helps keep your overhead and expenses low.

With a niched assortment, you also get to present your products in a very cohesive manner that is more likely to be eye-catching and attract customers.

#2 – Pick seasonally appropriate giftable items.

What are seasonally appropriate items that people are going to be looking for? Wrapping paper is always a fabulous holiday item. Think of the people you plan to purchase gifts for and what they’d enjoy. This is a great way to start to think about the best items to offer for the season.

There is a wide selection of possible products, so you want to pick the ones that go well together and enhance each other. Which leads me to tip #3…

#3 – Think in 3s.

Determine how your assortment can mix & match (for example, a tote bag, notebook, and coffee mug). These three items are great to offer as a bundle.

In my retail years, we called this UPT (Units Per Transaction) and always wanted to encourage customers to purchase three or more products. You can achieve this by bundling or offering a mix of products that work well together.

The items you bundle can even be the same, for example: 3 notebooks or four mix and match mugs. The idea is to create interest and attractive “bundles” so that customers purchase an assortment from you instead of just one individual product.
