Quick Tips – Craft Fairs – Picking A Craft Fair
Interested in participating in a craft fair this holiday season? Over the next several weeks, we’ll cover the key steps to follow to be successful. I’ll break the steps down into bite-size pieces so that each week, you’ll have a clear roadmap to follow.
So how do you pick a craft fair? Here are my 3 tips.
#1 – Research and check the dates of craft fairs in your area.
The most important thing is to ensure that you have about 6 weeks lead time before the craft fair happens. You want to check the dates and make sure you have a manageable timeframe to prepare all you need for the craft fair. A month or a month and a half tends to work well.
#2 – Search for free craft fairs.
The first time you do a craft fair, you don’t want to have any extra expenses. Check whether the admission is free, or if an application is required, and also if the hosts are going to take a percentage of the vendors’ proceeds. Most hosts don’t, so typically you get to keep all of your proceeds, but it’s always good to make sure and confirm the details.
#3 – Get to know the types of vendors at the craft fair.
It’s helpful to find out what type of vendors are going to be at the craft fair you’re targeting and ensure that there’s a really good mix of vendors selling different things. You may find other vendors selling similar products to yours and that’s okay because competition is always a good thing!
However, it’s also nice for there to be a good variety of things that people are looking for as they enter the holiday season. This variety attracts more potential shoppers. That’s what you want so that as many people as possible find your products and purchase them.
That’s it for this week. I’ll see you next week when we’ll talk about how to pick the products to offer at the fair.
