Meet Becky Volk
I hope you’re ready for another fabulous interview! In today’s blog, I’m sharing highlights from my interview with Becky Volk. She’s a creative entrepreneur who is finally making good on her fabric design dreams from childhood!
Becky took my free mini course, From Doodles to Dollars®, and then joined my signature program, the Pattern Design Academy®. She has lived her whole life creatively, and you’ll be very inspired by her story and how she’s always held on to her artistic dreams.
Grab the full transcript here or keep reading for a recap with key takeaways and highlights. The interview itself is over on my YouTube channel here. Please subscribe to my channel if you pop over there to watch it.
Here are a few notes from this encouraging interview:
#1 – There are many ways to be creative.
As a child, Becky took advantage of the art supplies that her mom always had on the kitchen table, and learned how to sew at age six. Becky took art classes in high school that led her to find her signature colors and style which are bright and cheerful!
“I’ve worked in creative jobs all along. My sister has a stationery and gift shop. She sells wholesale nationally and I’ve always helped her design … I owned a Lilly Pulitzer store, which is all about bright, happy, patterns. I had a handbag store and I laugh because this is kind of how I started my first pattern design … I would buy fabric and then paint on it to make it my own … ”.
Becky surrounds herself with art and takes advantage of the many ways to be creative. Even before learning about Surface Design, she was painting on fabrics to make them her own. Very resourceful, right?
#2 – Don’t let go of your dreams.
I often hear members of my community say words like, “I’ve always been creative, but I never considered myself an artist, so I never did anything about it”. Becky’s creative pursuits are a reminder that if you’re passionate enough to hold on to your dreams, you can always find a way to make them happen.
She says, “I've wanted to design fabrics since I was little. I have drawings still of patterns, plaids, and different designs that I created when I was in elementary school”.
You know that my motto is: “it’s never too late to create®” and this is a great example of that. You may not have drawings from elementary school, but if you have a deep desire to create any kind of art, be inspired by Becky and take the leap!
#3 – Don’t forget the fun.
Throughout the interview, Becky continues to tell us how much fun she’s having and how she’s loving Surface Design. She has big dreams and she’s been creating for a long time, but she’s never lost touch of that essential component – fun!
As a creative entrepreneur, you’ll always be honing your skills and learning new strategies to grow your business, but it’s important to stay in touch with your passion and love for art itself. When we lose touch of the fun and try to do everything perfectly, we stifle our freedom of expression.
I encourage you to always stop for a self-check and ask yourself :“Am I having fun? Am I loving what I’m doing?”
I hope you enjoy this interview and get inspired to pursue your own creative dreams. And remember to have fun! You can find Becky on Instagram @beckyvolkdesigns, and you can also find her on Society6 and Zazzle by visiting her website, beckyvolkdesigns.com.

MEET ANNE
Hi…I’m Anne!
My creative inspiration comes from a lifetime of observation. I grew up in Paris on the Place St. Sulpice and walked to school through the Luxembourg gardens. And that was only the beginning… Learn more by watching the video on my About page.
